Awana Update 2011-2012

The AWANA Clubs of Temple Baptist Church have begun another year, and what a great start it has been! Our Clubs are for kids ages 3 thru the 8th grade and we meet in the gym every Sunday night from 5:45 until 7:15.

There are 3 parts to our night:

  1. Handbook time – this is when the clubbers memorize and recite Bible verses,
  2. Lesson time – when leaders share practical and easy to understand Bible lessons, and
  3. Game time – when clubbers are put on teams and compete in organized games.

We are looking forward to an exciting year, one where we hope to see many boys and girls get saved, and become disciples for Christ. This cannot happen without leaders and helpers being faithful to God’s calling and serving the Lord in this ministry.  Please pray for our leaders as we endeavor to bring the word of God to the children of our area. Buckle up, because this one is going to be a DOOZIE!  Our nation’s government schools claim that education is “neutral” thanks to the “wall of separation” between the church and the state.  However, it seems that this “separation” is between the Christian church and the state.  Read on.

Without any question, if you were to ask me what my favorite holiday was as a child, I would say Christmas.  I loved everything about the Christmas season.  What wonderful memories I cherish of my childhood Christmases!  As an adult I often shared with my parents how thankful I was for the experiences of Christmas at home.

All of us are prone to be thankful at the moment of blessing.  It really doesn’t take faith, however, to give thanks at a moment when we can see what God has just done.  But it really does require faith to be thankful when the outcome of a situation has not yet been revealed.  It takes faith to thank God for his blessings when we are not sure of the exact amount of those blessings.

An illustration of giving thanks prior to the blessing comes from the life of George Mueller.  In the 1800s Mueller had an orphanage in Bristol, England, where about one thousand orphans lived.  One evening Mueller was informed that after the evening meal they would be out of food.  Mr. Mueller rose early the next morning to pray, as was his custom.

After spending hours in prayer, he told the staff to gather all of the children into the dinning hall for breakfast.  They gathered into the dining hall and sat around the tables.  Mr. Mueller began to pray and thank God for the breakfast they were about to eat.  He thanked God for the provision that he believed God would provide.
