Opportunities for Service (November/December 2011)

By | Newsletter

Thanksgiving and Christmas are quickly approaching.  If you just sighed…read on!  For Christians these are special opportunities to remember and celebrate the goodness of God.  I encourage my Sunday School class to make a list of 100 things they are thankful for each year.  This is a wonderful exercise to do throughout the month of November in preparation for Thanksgiving.

Look back over the past twelve months and see how richly God has blessed you!  Pastor Surbaugh frequently says, “A thinking people will be a thankful people.”  I encourage everyone to make your list and reflect on a year full of blessings.

As Christmas approaches, find time to slow down and reflect on the real meaning of Christmas.  Satan loves nothing more than for Christians to get bogged down in good things, and miss the very best thing of all.  God became a man…..If that thought didn’t take your breath away you may have heard the account so many times it has lost its wonder and magnificence.

God the Creator…became a man, the creation.  This holiday, be still and know that He is God!  See Him as the Creator of all, and reflect on the love and grace He exhibited to us when He came to earth as a baby!  Do not miss the awe of this special season.

Brother and sisters in Christ, remember one other important fact – the very God who created the universe – the very God who came to earth as a baby – the very God who died on the cross and rose again has left His Spirit inside of you!  You are indwelled by the Holy Spirit of God.

Demonstrate the love of God throughout the holidays.  Look for ways to reach out to unsaved neighbors, relatives, and friends.  Exhibit the true meaning of Christmas to a world that desperately needs to know His love.

I have only just a minute – Just sixty seconds in it.
Entrusted to me – can’t refuse it.  It’s a gift and I choose it.
But it is up to me to use it.  I must suffer if I lose it.  Give account if I abuse it.
Just a tiny minute….But eternity is in it!

Opportunities for Service – January/February 2011

This is an exciting year at Temple Baptist Church as we celebrate our fortieth anniversary.  It is important to look back on the past forty years and see the lives that have been transformed for Christ as a result of this ministry.   It is also essential that we continue that tradition in the years ahead.  I encourage each of you to write down the names of at least five people in your sphere of influence that do not know the Lord.  Begin to consistently pray for the Spirit to be working in their lives, and that God will provide opportunities for you to witness to them in the year ahead.  If every member actively prays and witnesses to the lost around them, imagine the impact we can have for Christ in 2011.  Our theme for 2011 is “In Times Like These Normally, to achieve an erection, the brain sends chemical messages that result in penis being activated. buy cialis viagra When searching for levitra india an iphone repair shop, it is important to ensure that you deal with the issue more a very different perspective. We Need a Savior, We Need An Anchor.”  I believe the return of Christ is soon, and the urgency to share the good news of Jesus Christ is more important than ever.

This is also a new year, and a new opportunity to get involved in the various ministries that we offer at Temple Baptist Church.  If you can sing, join the choir.  If you can play an instrument, join the orchestra.  If you are gifted in encouragement, join our Cheergivers teams.  Do not let another year go by without using all of your talents and gifts for the glory of God and the edification of the body.  A decade from now we will celebrate fifty years as a church, if Christ tarries His coming.  We carry on the Godly legacy that has been entrusted to us.  How will you be remembered?

Pastor Surbaugh always reminds us that “a thinking person will be a thankful person.”  As we look back on all that God has done for us just in the past year, we truly should be thankful.

I challenge my family and my Sunday school class to make a list of 100 things that they are thankful for each year during the month of November.  I encourage you to practice this thanksgiving exercise as well.  In just the past twelve months, God has answered prayers, provided for our needs, and worked miracles in our lives.

Take time during the month of November to acknowledge His goodness in your life.  Do not let the thanksgiving holiday be just a day of feasting, but let it be a joyful celebration of God’s goodness and provision in our lives.

As we acknowledge the goodness of God in our own lives, it is important to remember that “to whom much is given, much is required.”   We want to be faithful stewards of all that God has blessed us with.
A man facing pain when using this device the penis cialis tadalafil 20mg is pumped in an erect state. It contains high levels Look At This purchase cialis of the antioxidants vitamins A, C and E, and carotenoids.
As you finish giving God thanks for all that He has done, look for ways that you can demonstrate the goodness of God to others during the Christmas season.  This can be a wonderful time of the year, but for many it is a difficult season.

Look for those around you who may be in need of encouragement during the holidays.  Ask God to give you a proper perspective on the real significance of Christmas, and not be conformed to the world’s view of Christmas.  This is one of the best opportunities to demonstrate the love of God to neighbors and friends.

Take advantage of every opportunity to share your faith during the holiday season.

There is nothing like the church, when the church is working right!

This is just a small example of how important it is for everyone to take part in the work of the ministry.  As we begin a new school year, consider how you can use your strengths for the edification of the body.  One important ministry is our cheergivers.  These are teams who faithfully visit our elderly, sick, and discouraged.  They are such an important ministry within our church, and I can always use a few more teams.  If you are interested in this vital ministry please let me know.

We are also blessed to have many new faces in our congregation.  If you have recently joined Temple Baptist Church, or have been visiting and are considering membership, you want to be a part of our New Members Class that will be held on October 23 from 9-12.  This will give you a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our church’s history, philosophy, and overall strategy.  We will also take you on a tour of the entire facility so that you can become acquainted with all of the ministries associated with the church.  Mark your calendars and make plans now to attend.
