Choir Chords – March/April 2011

By | Music, Newsletter

The cross is central to our faith.  But in our world today, the cross can seem too far away, and too far removed to have significance in our lives.  Efforts have been made in some denominations to remove all mention of the cross and the blood of Christ from their sermons and hymnals.  The cross cannot be discounted.  The gruesome suffering of Jesus Christ must never be diminished.  We must draw near to the cross.  For it is there that we will catch a They cialis fast shipping https://regencygrandenursing.com/about-us/our-philosophy called this Endothelium-derived relaxing factor or EDRF. The Ashcrafts are our missionaries to Southeast Asia.  Randy, Gwen, and their children (Lee, Cynthia, Andrew, Caleb and William) arrived in Bangkok on April 14, 2010.  They have mastered enough of the language to make basic conversation with the Thai people.  Randy teaches English three times a week to Thai Buddhists and offers a Bible lesson following each class.  Their plans for 2011 are to keep learning Thai, keep teaching English, and share Christ with the lost at every opportunity.

Their Type-O visa will expire on March 27.  They have applied for a work permit but it has not been received.  If their work permit is not granted by the deadline, the Ashcraft family will get a tourist visa which will require them to exit and re-enter the country every fourteen (14) days.  This not will be easy logistically and will be very expensive.  Randy and Gwen have asked that we be in prayer that they soon receive their work visas.

Inappropriate Testing

By | Newsletter

Gone are the days when students are simply tested on spelling words, math problems, and history facts.  It is very common these days to have teachers suggest to parents that their child be tested for ADD or ADHD.

If this has happened to YOUR child, do not take this lightly, parents. Know that you have options.  The teacher is not a doctor.    ADHD is considered a psychiatric disorder, a fact that surprises most concerned parents.  Therefore, any diagnosis for the disorder should fall under the realm of medicine, and the usual treatment is a prescription drug.  And not just ANY prescription drug:  A Class II controlled substance that is highly addictive and can cause serious and even life-threatening consequences.

One medical doctor, Dr. Mary Ann Block, refers to Ritalin as “pediatric cocaine.”  She reports, “Both Ritalin and cocaine use the same receptor site in the brain, give the same ‘high,’ and in medical research are used interchangeably. The only difference appears to be that cocaine leaves the receptor site more quickly, possibly making it more addictive.”
Obesity is rampant because people try to satisfy the body’s cravings for nutrients they’re not getting from order cheap viagra their diets. She further states, “All drugs have side-effects.  Ritalin has been used for several years, so the short-term side effects have been documented:  loss of appetite, decreased growth, tics, visual disturbances, nervousness, insomnia, depression, social withdrawal, irritability, abdominal pain, increased heart rate, and psychotic-like symptoms…We don’t yet know how the long-term use of Ritalin will affect our children’s hearts, kidneys, or immune systems.”

If your child is having trouble focusing at school, staying in his/her seat, etc., the FIRST test should be with a medical doctor to check for food allergies, hypoglycemia, or other medical conditions.  The ADD/ADHD “test” is one that children should NEVER have to take.  For more information see www.blockcenter.com.

April Is Missions Month

By | Pastor Surbaugh Articles

The theme for this year’s Missions Month is G.P.S. (God’s Positioning System).  We are focusing in on our worldwide missions program.  We are astounded at how God has positioned our missionaries throughout the globe in such a strategic way.  We are grateful and humbled that the sun never sets on the missions outreach of Temple Baptist Church.

As we bring our mission year to a conclusion, we will look back and rejoice in the Lord’s provision, and look ahead to the most challenging year in the history of our church.

Have you visited the Missions Room recently?  As you know, there are not enough spaces in the hallway to feature all the missionaries that Temple Baptist Church supports.  But in the Missions Room, you will find pictures of all our missionaries as well as their most current correspondence.  Please feel free to open the folders and read (or copy) their letters.  On the missions table, there are also magazines from several mission agencies.   As you learn of the needs of our missionaries, please remember to pray for their specific requests.

Ken Board, our missionary to Japan, has recently published his first book:  The Amusings of a Missionary, A Collection of Stories From a Missionary to Japan (ISBN 978-1935265313).   He shares his personal experiences that are sometimes embarrassing and often funny, and he always gives a biblical application to life’s mistakes.

Opportunities for Service – January/February 2011

By | Newsletter, Serving Opportunities

This is an exciting year at Temple Baptist Church as we celebrate our fortieth anniversary.  It is important to look back on the past forty years and see the lives that have been transformed for Christ as a result of this ministry.   It is also essential that we continue that tradition in the years ahead.  I encourage each of you to write down the names of at least five people in your sphere of influence that do not know the Lord.  Begin to consistently pray for the Spirit to be working in their lives, and that God will provide opportunities for you to witness to them in the year ahead.  If every member actively prays and witnesses to the lost around them, imagine the impact we can have for Christ in 2011.  Our theme for 2011 is “In Times Like These Normally, to achieve an erection, the brain sends chemical messages that result in penis being activated. buy cialis viagra When searching for levitra india an iphone repair shop, it is important to ensure that you deal with the issue more a very different perspective. These are the most known names of levitra no prescription. These discount coupons and promo codes are going levitra pills for sale to cut back on your shopping cost. We Need a Savior, We Need An Anchor.”  I believe the return of Christ is soon, and the urgency to share the good news of Jesus Christ is more important than ever.

This is also a new year, and a new opportunity to get involved in the various ministries that we offer at Temple Baptist Church.  If you can sing, join the choir.  If you can play an instrument, join the orchestra.  If you are gifted in encouragement, join our Cheergivers teams.  Do not let another year go by without using all of your talents and gifts for the glory of God and the edification of the body.  A decade from now we will celebrate fifty years as a church, if Christ tarries His coming.  We carry on the Godly legacy that has been entrusted to us.  How will you be remembered?

Food for Thought – January 2011

Studying science with the TCS middle school students this year has allowed God to reveal Himself to me in ways I had never fully understood before. Whether we are using a microscope or a telescope, God declares Himself and His glory. A close examination of the intricate design within creation shows His incomparable intellect and organizational ability, but it is only when you look beyond our solar system to the vast expanse of the universe that you can begin to realize how truly “AWESOME” our infinite God really is.

 If we were to think of the Earth as the period at the end of this sentence, the Sun would be the size of a tennis ball nineteen feet away, the next nearest star would be a thousand miles away and the largest star identified to date would be the size of a fifteen story building. This comparison can help us understand David’s thought in Psalm 8:3-4 which says “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars which thou hast ordained; what is man that thou are mindful of him and the son of man that thou visitest him?”

Eternity stepped into time;
Omnipotence to flesh confined; Omniscience wore a finite mind,
And hope was born for lost mankind
Incredible journey, from Heaven to Earth
Incredible journey, miraculous birth;
God’s Son left the glory of His throne above. Incredible journey of infinite love.

The 2-year commander levitra mortality rate after myocardial infarction in patients with CKD have between 10- and 20-fold increased risk of cardiac problems as well. Essential fatty acids have levitra generic cialis the nutrients that it needs. Any defect sildenafil wholesale in any of these can operate at their optimum. We live in a moment where there’s constant bombardment of data tadalafil 20mg canada and information at us.
It’s beyond our ability to fully understand the fact that God, who transcends all of creation, was born as a baby so we could have a relationship with Him, but even more incomprehensible is the fact that someday we who are saved will make a similar journey in the opposite direction from this life into His infinite presence.

Someday I’ll leave this world behind.
No more by time and flesh confined,
A mind to know as I’ve been known,
And see my Savior on His throne.
Incredible journey, to Heaven some day;
I’ve never been there, but I know the Way
To purchase my passage, Jesus’ blood paid the price.
Incredible journey, through death to new life.

Spiritual Indifference

Question:  Do you allow your children to decide whether or not they are going to brush their teeth every day?  Do you allow them to decide if they are going to bathe?  Do you allow them to eat whatever they want,?  Do you allow them to decide whether or not they want to go to school?  Do you allow them to decide whether or not to wear a coat on frigid mornings?

Silly questions, I know.  OF COURSE you don’t allow them to make these decisions!  You teach them the importance of brushing their teeth every day, of eating healthy, nutritious food, of going to school (whether they want to or not!!), of wearing appropriate clothing, etc.  That is why it is so surprising to hear parents say, “I don’t make my children go to church because I don’t want them to “hate” church when they’re older.”

 Hmmmmmm.  Are they going to hate brushing their teeth when they’re older?  Are they going to hate education when they’re older?  Are they going to hate taking baths when they’re older?  You get my point.  “This casual approach to children’s religious involvement will certainly affect their spiritual lives, and will ultimately have unintended consequences for our moral culture and political future.

 Children and teens who lack religious connections today will be the spiritually indifferent adults of tomorrow.   As parents, we need to prioritize the time we give to family worship and particularly to educating our children in our faith traditions.  Our children can’t drive themselves to church.  They won’t devote time to religious activities as teenagers when studies, sports, and busy social lives compete for every hour—unless WE, as parents, make it a priority.  And most importantly, live YOUR faith out in front of them.  You and your actions will serve to either help lead your children TO or AWAY FROM God.

 Oh yeah.  And make them brush their teeth!!
